Rajasthan

Rajasthan
Rajasthan is where all the country's smiles and metaphors appear to have come together. Sand dunes, wooded hills and amazing lakes, palaces and rugged forts, men and women in colorful turbans and skirts, bustling towns and quiet villages, camels, elephants and tigers, harsh sunlight and the cool evening breeze - are all there in abundance.

But they form only part of an intricate tapestry. Beneath the surface, expect to find many contradictions. Where ever you travel, particularly when you escape from the popular tourist destinations you will come across the unexpected, whether it is a local fair or breathtaking view.

The mood and the rhythm of the country side changes from one region to another, and from season to season. It is a land of surprises, it is a land of amazing natural beauty that can fascinate even the most seasoned traveller.

A magical sojourn reverberating with age old culture and traditions, the state enfolds in its lap a diverse kaleidoscope of breathtakingly beautiful and fascinating art-de-facts. The range is unparalleled even while it is sophisticated in its simplicity.

   :: Gernel Information Rajasthan :
:: Rajasthan Location -
Rajasthan is located in the Western Part of India and has two distinct geographical regions with desert on one side and thick forest on the other. Aravalli the oldest mountain chain is the dividing line between the two climatic zones of the State. The eastern region of the State has thick vegetation of Sal, axlewood, dhak and mesquite.
Even the desert area of Rajasthan is far from being barren and uninhabited. The rainfall,. though scanty, encourages the growth of grasses shrubs and peepal trees which grow well along the desert margin. Among the sand dunes we have babool and khejri trees, with the last named sometimes cracking open even hard rocks. The Thar Desert abounds in wild life especially around water holes. There are animals like the desert fox, jackal, black buck, chinkara and nilgai and birds like the sand grouse, dove, quail, partridge and the famed Great Indian Bustard.
There are more surprises in store. Western and northern Rajasthan were not always desert. There is evidence to prove that this area was once covered with dense forests where elephants roamed freely. Ecological changes over the past 3-4 millennia have replaced forest with sand and the mighty elephant with the serviceable camel.
:: Architecture -
As is the arid land of Rajasthan colourful with colours, vibrant with dance and music, magnificent in the hands of her artisans, so also it is equally rich for her architectural heritage. Her numbers of forts singing of romance and chivalry, the Havelies of the land lords, intricately carved temples and mosques, the Buddhist caves and stupas and sacred Jain temples take one into the pages of history of monumental desert structures.
:: Special Events -
Rajasthan has all the usual Hindu and Muslim festivals, some celebrated with special local fervour, as well as a number of festivals of its own. Rajasthan is perhaps best known for the flamboyant Pushkar Camel fair, held annually in October/November.Exclusive to Rajasthan is the Ganguar fair, which celebrates the love between Shiva and Parvati.Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Nathwara and Jaisalmer all celebrate colourful fairs of Gangaur.
